This anthology covers most of his early recordings, and were not widely played on radio stations of the day. I think he is a song writing genius, but also enjoy his vocals, and as always, his backup is superb. Highly recommended. It's hard to believe that someone so prolific could fly under the radar for so long.
For babyboomers who love music, Chip Taylor's music transcends country. He really is one of the first country-rock artists You may balk at the price of this import, but no other U. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.

Chip Taylor is an underrated songwriter and all around nice guy. Had the pleasure of seeing a couple of his shows when he was touring with Carrie Rodriguez and John Platania on guitar. This remains my favorite Chip Taylor cd.
This was first tossed to me on a Warner Bros sampler album in , and I picked up the LP in a bargain bin, losing it decades ago. Even when he sings about not being born in Tennessee, this is real country: real American sad and true country. What a wonderful rerelease by a classic writer for everybody else. It sounds better now than even then. Well recommended for country fans.
One person found this helpful. Despite the fact that this album eluded me for 27 years, the infectious melodies and meaningful lyrics of its music had become such a living entity in my life that it attained the status of a "best friend". You see, I was initially exposed to a buddy's vinyl pressing of this classic Taylor album back in This tantalizing taste of audial ecstasy was fleeting at best because a few weeks later the record was ruined in a basement flood.
Not only was I never able to procure another copy for my friend or myself but ironically Chip abandoned the music industry altogether at this time. I hadn't felt such a sense of personal loss over a performer since the death of Buddy Holly when I was age At least I had Holly's legacy on various recordings to enjoy over the ensuing years. But all I had left of Taylor's music were distant sounds echoing over that cluttered playback mechanism in the deep recesses of my mind for almost 3 decades!
His performances are excellent and deserving of chart action on their own, or at least some serious adult alternative radio airplay. There are 13 selections and, though some important compositions are missing -- the American Breed 's "Step Out of Your Mind," the Clique's "I'll Hold Out My Hand" from the album that launched their Tommy James hit "Sugar on Sunday," and Taylor 's own minor chart entry "Here I Am" -- the sincerity in delivery and the historic importance make this a textbook you can learn from and enjoy.
