Read the entire review to understand why this box set is a winner. I own all of Bruce's studio albums, live albums, greatest hits packages and now this box set. I bought the box set because I am a completest of artists that I admire. If you have most, or every Bruce Cockburn release as I do, this compilation may not be for you. There is not a whole lot of new material to be found on this box set.
There is one CD that has songs that are either rare or have never been released. The one rare and unreleased disc only has 14 songs on it.
The only other semi new addition is the black and white concert of his live album, "Slice O Life - Live Solo". It's interesting and I am not criticizing the black and white version of the concert. The black and white strangely makes the concert more interesting.
The package has an excellent selection of Cockburn's work from the beginning in the Toronto coffee houses, right up to today's most recent releases. Most artists work seems to suffer as they get older. This is not the case with Bruce Cockburn. His work has not suffered one iota. For those not that familiar with Cockburn, listen to Bruce's guitar work.
He is underrated as a guitar player, and as a musician in general. I guarantee that if you like some of Bruce Cockburn's work, buy this compilation, and you won't be able to keep it off of your CD tray.
Sure, I would have enjoyed more rarities, live concert footage from his earlier career I could go on and on about what I would have personally liked on this compilation. In the end, I am just rating his music. If those are the parameters, I give the set a solid '5' out of '5'. There's a problem loading this menu right now. Learn more about Amazon Prime. The Rose Above The Sky Something jewelled slips away Round the next bend with a splash Laughing at the hands I hold out Only air within their grasp All you can do is praise the razor For the fineness of the slash. Gutless arrogance and rage Burn apart the best of tries You carry the weight of inherited sorrow From your first day till you die Toward that hilltop where the road Forever becomes one with the sky. Ozone on the midnight wind Got me thinking of the sea And the mercies of the currents that brought Me to you and you to me And in the silence at the heart of things Where all true meetings come to be.
Grim Travellers live version release. Cockburn, wielding an electric guitar and backed by such new band members as violonist Hugh Marsh and keyboardist Jon Goldsmith, infused the entire album with a tougher, more uptempo sound.

Top positive review. Reviewed in the United States on August 15, Just revisited the vinyl last night. Needed to hear the context of this couplet: "You get bigger as you go It was good to revisit this early-middle album of his. I saw him around this time at the Paradise in Boston. The late Hugh Marsh, in a canadian military jumpsuit, wailing away at an electric violin. He did "The Strong One" in total darkness at first.
