They are also one of the most influencial bands of the rock era. Many major guitarists of today trace their beginnings to the "Play Guitar With The Ventures" and these two albums.

The Original "Walk Don't Run" the first album is an adaption of a Chet Adkins song, som of his early works are excellent and was their first big hit, and caused a rapid succession of copy bands to follow, Pyramids, Safaris, Challengers, etc. The Ventures were one of the few bands of the 's to release albums of good material, versus one or two 45's with filler.

Examples here include the cover of "Raunchy", "Honky Tonk", Caravan", "Night Train" and others The second album is the Ventures caught at their best, this being one of a series of albums whose production and music where way ahead of their time. The new version of " Walk Don't Run '64" is excellent, wih a lot of bass, with a little bit of Phil Spector thrown in. The originals are here. If a serious collector, note this album as a major artifact of the rock era.

Note this is not heard on radio anymore since radio oldies play the same over and over, and ignore anything not 1 or 2 or motown, except the "Doo Wop" shows!!! Take away the vocals and here the Ventures influence in The Ventures' drive changed with the addition of drummer Mel Taylor in mid His drumming made the group more hard rocking and energetic. Howie Johnson's good, but rather quiet drumming was the reason for The Ventures' slow paced and rather boring songs from This is why Walk Don't Run Vol.

This album or albums are highlights of the Ventures' career and still remain a favorite of mine and yours. Some imperfections still good for the price. Great Christmas gift. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Both The Shadows and The Ventures were highly successful instrumental beat groups from either side of the Atlantic The Shads were formed initially as a backing band for Cliff when touring, until of course they had a big hit in their own right with 'Apache', after which they were an essential part of any stage show.

They produced hit after hit, lost their way a bit, had personnel changes and diversified into covering other people's pop tunes of the day, including the occasional yuck vocal. The Ventures, on the other hand, were obviously reared on surf sounds, were a band on their very own -- at least I don't think they ever backed anybody.

Hits came from their version of many times recorded by others of 'Walk, Don't Run', and covering catchy older tunes such as 'Perfidia', after a while they too diversified by taking on more covers and turning out album after album.

This cheap re-issue is from the outfit's early work and perhaps best efforts, mainly because they're now out of copyright restrictions so anybody can just pick up their efforts. So, on the whole, a good example of the better stuff, if only to have in your collection, particularly if you're downsizing as I am.

One personal pet hate however -- the awful cardboard packaging, which isn't substantial or protective. There's a lack of good informative booklet notes too, although there are just a few paragraphs, but the type is so small it's hardly legible. So, on that score, I'll give it just the four stars. They fizzled out of fashion, didn't they? I doubt it. There are a multitude of Ventures collections out there. To start with I wasn't sure if this was actually the Ventures at all - the band themselves have done may rerecordings with different guitarists and even released albums they acknowledge the core members never played on.

But this is pleasant enough as background music. Overall lacks any oomph to proceedings. Versions tend to sound nice and respectable without attitude. Report abuse. Walk Don't Run. Brilliant cd this, there as good as the shadows, this cd will get a lot of play from me, real value for money. I love Twangy sound.. Buy this collection if you do too..

The song was recorded before the band officially had a drummer. The band later rerecorded the song in see below , and became the first band to score two top ten hits with two versions of the same tune. This version is known for its jazz-inflected second verse and the use of keyboards in place of rhythm guitar. The song follows the Andalusian cadence , although the Ventures' version replaces the vi chord relative to C major with a VI chord, A major. In this version, the lead guitarist and bass player from the original switched roles, with Edwards handling the lead parts and Bogle the bass.

It reached 8 on the Billboard Hot chart and 9 on the Cash Box magazine chart in Lullaby Of The Leaves. Yellow Jacket. Driving Guitars Ventures Twist. Road Runner. Spudnik Surf Rider. Night Drive.
