You Can All Join In - Traffic - Traffic (Cassette, Album)

These are old songs for a new world! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. The debut album is a hippy beast - all Psychedelic soundscapes as the boys romp around the countryside in afghans and tie-die shirts with poppies in their hair and joints hanging out of their mouths and shagging anything that looks cute and grows mushrooms.

Sure took us for one big ride and with these little beauties in my grubby mitts - I am feelin' alright I didn't think I needed this package. The version of Mr. Fantasy I have has the whole of the original U. I am so glad I did. Okay it is just the five albums, card reproduction album sleeves, no notes but what you do get is these five brilliant albums with the appropriate Island label on the CDs and the remastering bring new life to the music fit for 21st century music systems.

I have fallen in love with Traffic's music all over again. If you were a fan back in the day and want to reacquaint yourself with Traffic's albums then this is certainly the way to buy them and for around a tenner! An essential companion piece to the Free 5CD box set, this too captures that wonderful Island sound and feel of the late sixties and early seventies. In truth, most of the Traffic albums were patchy, hit and miss affairs; but you had to marvel at the talent and breadth of ambition.

Rarely has such ability been assembled in one band and the material ranged from psychedelic rock, to folk, blues, jazz and all stops in between. Steve Winwood was of course the central pivot throughout their time together, and he never again quite captured the creative magic and musical development that he found within Traffic.

Also much missed, Chris Wood's contributions on saxes and flute were indispensable; his soprano sax intro to No Time To Live over Winwood's piano conjures something so deep and elemental, it is my favourite Traffic 'moment'.

Dave Mason was a gifted guitarist and writer too, with a distinctive voice, who never quite achieved the success that his talent seemed to suggest. The remastering on these albums is fantastic and brings much of the subtlety and nuance to the fore. A mixed bag for sure but so many highlights that it really doesn't matter. If you want to go back to this marvellous era, Traffic will take you there. What we have here are 5 of the finest pieces of work that comprise the best of what Traffic had to offer.

All for less than the price of your average CD. For anyone still listening to their scratchy old, much loved vinyl copies The sound is fresh and clean and a delight to anyone considering dipping their toe into the bands history. You really can't put a foot wrong here. A gem! Classic albums all; anything which features the plaintive voice of Steve WInwood is a must. Music with great melodies, imaginative lyrics, lots of space to breathe. It's been on my stereo for hours this week.

The improvement in songwriting for the second self-titled "Traffic" album is amazing (and who hasn't had that Island Records sampler LP "You Can All Join In" on Island IWPS 2 in their homes at one point - Traffic get the titular track at the end of Side 1)/5().

  2. Song Review by Matthew Greenwald After his early, Lennon-esque forays into psychedelia that were on Traffic's debut album, Dave Mason emerged as a true folk-rock craftsman on the second album, and "You Can All Join In" is an excellent example of this. Its jovial, communal vibe is truly infectious.
  3. Jan 19,  · I prefer this to their début, although you've got the two contrasting styles in the songs written by Mason compared to the pairing of Capaldi and Winwood, the album sounds cohesive. The songs, on the whole, are good, (a couple sound a little dated in parts though) and "Feelin' Alright" is the group's most enduring song/5(7).
  4. After dispensing with his services in December , the remaining members of Traffic reinstated Dave Mason in the group in the spring of as they struggled to write enough material for their impending second album.
